Product Description
Pure lectin GSL II is isolated from bandeiraea, Griffonia simplicifolia and purified by affinity chromatography. GSL II has isoelectric points of pH 5 to 6 and a molecular weight of 113,000 Da. GSL II is a glycoprotein consisting of two nearly identical subunits with each having disulfide-linked chains and binding site for α- or Beta-linkedN-acetylglucosamine residues. GSL II has a carbohydrate specificity for αGal and αGalNAc, and elutes a concentration of 0.2M of galactose or 0.2M of N-acetylgalactosamine. Increasing the number of N-acetylglucosamine residues beyond two does not improve affinity. This lectin shows specificity for blood group B greater than blood group A1. It has been reported to be unique in its ability to recognize exclusively α- or Beta-linkedN-acetylglucosamine residues on the nonreducing terminal oligosaccharides.
This product comes in a lyophilized powder form and is stored at -20 C. Calcium and Manganese are required for binding.
