Product Description
Pure lectin LCA is isolated from lentil seeds, Lens culinaris and purified by affinity chromatography. LCA consists of subunits α-chain (MW: 5,710, 52 residues) and Beta-chain (MW: 17,572, determined by 11 tryptic peptides), with a molecular weight of 46,000 Da. LCA has isoelectric points between pH 7.6 - 8.4 and a carbohydrate specificity toward α-D-mannose and α-D-glucose, eluting a concentration of 0.2M of MeαMan+MeαGlc. This lectin is useful in affinity chromatography columns for the separation of glycoconjugates.
Two isomers LCA-A and LCA-B agglutinates human red blood cells, although not blood group specific. Activity of LCA is determined by haemagglutination with human blood and agglutinates a 2% suspension of human erythrocytes at a lectin concentration of â¤8µg/ml in 0.9% saline solution after 2 hours at 25 C.
This product comes in a lyophilized powder form and is stable for more than three years from production date when stored at -20 C. Calcium and manganese are required for binding.
Applications:
 Haemagglutination studies
 Cell agglutination studies
 Component in affinity columns
 Separation of glycoconjugates
