Product description: Actagardin-related class II lantibiotic. Antibacterial with improved activity than actagardine against Staphylococcus spp. and Streptococcus spp. Shows significant activity against Gram-positive anaerobic bacteria, such as Clostridium difficile, C. butyricum, C. perfringens and Peptostreptococcus asaccharolyticus. Most probably inhibits cell wall synthesis and consequently bacterial growth by forming a complex with lipid intermediate II (Lipid II), a key intermediate in peptidoglycan biosynthesis. Potential novel antimicrobial agent for the treatment of infections caused by Gram-positive pathogens including resistant strains.
